I was introduced to chiropractic in my teens, when my next door neighbour developed a debilitative illness called labyrinthitis. Numerous visits to his GP, countless medications and six months of dizziness, nausea and disorientation took its toll on him. Somebody recommended that he consult a Chiropractor and a few weeks later he was back to his normal self. Further evidence of the benefits of Chiropractic practice were shown when I visited a chiropractor for chronic headaches myself.
I discovered that I had seriously altered my neck function due to a road traffic accident a year earlier. Again after Chiropractic treatment, my headaches were almost completely gone. This inspired me to work towards becoming a Chiropractor myself and I have never looked back.
I have been working as a chiropractor for over 7 years now. During this time, I have worked in a variety of different clinics, often working in 2 clinics at a time, gaining as much clinical experience as possible. Eventually I was given the opportunity to come back to Banchory to introduce Chiropractic to my home town.
I have a keen interest in younger patients; after my extended study into chiropractic paediatrics I am delighted to help patients from all stages of life! I am also an NCT breastfeeding support counsellor and love to help new mothers feeding their little ones.
I opened Banchory Spinal Health in March 2012. I dreamt of making chiropractic treatment accessible and affordable to as many people as possible throughout Aberdeenshire. We are now a very busy clinic with 2 chiropractors to manage the number of patients. I am also frequently asked to attend oil companies in Aberdeen to help desk workers improve their posture.
When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my lovely family. I also volunteer as a breastfeeding counsellor and run a baby group with the NCT. I have a keen interest in alternative healthcare and enjoy researching the latest advances in health and well being.
I believe that continued professional development is essential to achieving clinical excellence. Here are some of the areas that I have studied on a postgraduate basis.
- Paediatric Neuro Impulse Protocol
- Diploma in Chiropractic Paediatrics
- Thompson Technique
- Proprioceptive Muscle Testing
- Functional Neurology
- Adjusting the Pregnant Pelvis (Webster Technique used)
